Trying to figure out how to adjust this? Tappets set correctly and following the guidance in the manual (blue cover one), don’t get the instruction about setting valve clearance to 0.1mm on the exhaust valve and then adjusting it up with the decompressor cam. I can see how it works but can’t get it to do properly. There is a collar on the exhaust cam follower and I can see the‘cam’ is placed under the collar so when the collar is lifted it raises the exhaust pushrod and decompresses the engine. Do I need to adjust the cable so all the backlash in the collar is taken up to ensure maximum lift? Seems at present the cam is just lifting the backlash and not the pushrod? Sorry hope that all makes sense? :-)

Assuming you have adjusted the valve clearances (so the pushrods are just free to turn). Set the de-comp cable so that cam is just clear of the collar on the follower.
I assume you have fitted a proper lever on the handlbar for you will never lift the valve with that pathetic bit of plastic the factory fits.

Thanks makes perfect sense, still got the original lever and yes total crap, just bends! So a proper Amal type lever will help?

Yes, it will work perfectly with a proper lever, or if you are frugal like me, a redundant bicycle brake lever is even better.
There are several opinions of the Electra de-comp on here and others have their own favourite ways of improving it. If you do a search you will find lots more on the subject.

Just found some nice looking decomp levers from the pre 65 trials world, black and will probably look ok on the Electra X next to the existing switchgear, cheers!

There are some quite decent clutch/decomp lever combinations around too, perhaps our hosts could consider stocking something similar.
