I'm fine making my own cables, it's just that any time I've had a cable supplied, it's been too long and I've had to shorten it, which kind of defeats the object of buying one in the first place.

The problem I have with the choke cable is in a large part due to the huge quantity of exposed cable around the standard adjusters. If you don't turn it to "fully rich" on parking, you can garauntee a week later it'll be stuck and need freeing off. If you use it with the supplied choke cable, no matter where you put the lever, the in-line cable adjuster fouls the casquette. The cable also has to go through quite a sharp bend at the carb end which can lead to kinking of the outer/inner if you aren't very careful and takes a fair degree of fiddling if you want to weedy spring to be able to draw the cable through the outer.

stinkwheel - did you use ferrules in the mixing chamber top ? Adjusters and locknuts would possibly cause clearance problems.

Inline adjuster on my air cable is fully inside the nacelle, where it's well protected from the elements.

I don't have a problem with cables sticking, as all my cables are nylon-lined.

They come with a locknut and adjuster in the carb top, so yes I fitted them.

However, it's all academic now. The Amal is going in the bin, which is all it's now fit for without radical remedial engineering (ie overboring and either sleeving or fitting an oversize slide). If I spend any more of my hard-earned cash on carburettors, it'll be on a mikuni jetted up to suit from a professional carb supplier, which is what I'd suggest the OP does if he thinks he can't live with the mikcarb (VM24-273).

For Mark M, the lucky first recipient was the 1966 BSA Victor Enduro. ISTRC very early Mk1 concentrics still had the detachable pilot jets for 4 strokes as well as 2 stroke applications. Someone might remember when they changed to fixed pilot jets for 4 stroke carbs and why.

Thanks Adrian, I thought it was BSA (they were the biggest after all,) but I didn't know the model. Enfield can't have been far behind, the Interceptor Mk1A was fitted with Concs from mid 66 onwards although the first 100 had Monoblocs, probably using up the old stock.

I have a deluxe Amal Mk1 concentric on my 350.I know they can be troublesome, but I have recently got the guys at Sammy Miller's Motorcycle museum to set up the carb and ignition for me (it was driving me crazy) and boy does the bike go now!
