I fancy taking my very ordinary Classic EFI round a race circuit, but am wary about getting in the way of fast stuff. Put it this way, my last track day was at Oulton Park in 1974 on a Norton Commando - very, very, different times! My Classic has free flow exhaust and silencer, and has been modified to increase ground clearance but is still embarrassingly slow - is this just wishful thinking on the part of a silly old git?

Hi Beamish, we sometimes take our RE race bikes to track days for Ian to get a bit of practice. There are usually three groups consisting of slow, intermediate and fast. Ian takes our bikes out in the intermediate group and is usually with the front runners in that. How slow the slow group would be, I don't know, but that would be the obvious place to start! Regards, Paul.

I don't know if this is up for a vote, but I say go for it! If re-living the days of your youth would bring you some enjoyment, then what have you got to lose?

I have seen classic 50 cc moped/scooters being ridden at track days so anything is possible, on slower stuff you just end up being a mobile chicane but its others responsabilty to pass you safely and a lot of track days have a pass only on the straights policy anyway to avoid people diving up the inside like in a race.

Thanks for the positive responses. I am not an adventurous type but over the last few years I have spent a morning riding a trials bike with Dan Thorpe as tutor (what a smashing lad), a day being led across Salisbury Plain trails on a Royal Enfield at speeds that I would never have attempted on my own, and have completed 3 Beamish Reliability runs (155 miles approx) on my 197cc Dot. So, encouraged by you, I am going to take this track day thing further. Thanks again. P.S. I will report back, but don't hold your collective breaths, it takes me a while to organise things!
Now back to the garage - I've a split front gaiter to replace - and it's looking like a job that will stretch my mechanical abilities!

You'll need all on one leathers or a zip together two-piece, and your exhaust my be too loud. Check with the track day providers. Chris.
