Rocker ratio will have little, if any effect as the inlet valve is [or should be] just starting to open when the piston is going over TDC at the end of the exhaust stroke. The height of the rocker assembly will have no impact at all on what the valve does, as the pushrod adjusted length will compensate for that. Reducing the diameter of a valve is easy for anyone with a lathe, just cut the seating area to the same angle as before after turning the head diameter down to the required size.

Sorry Paul, I forgot we don't live in an ideal world, ;-). Also I overlooked how bad Indian engineering can be, I would normally lap the spigot head joint, measure the required gasket thickness and buy/make/adjust as required. But I am an old style perfectionist.

Just looking at that first photo looks like the piston top is a little high compared to the barrel, normally
the piston top should sit level or a fraction below the liner lip on top.H's sell 2 and 3 mm alloy
plates to lift the barrel height.Pauls on the money re valve work.H's also sell forged pistons for the Bullet
which would get back any loss of compression fitting one of those plates.

Thanks Colin F, this is what I want to hear. Something that can be seen to be wrong with my bike that I can do something about.
I've hopefully attached another picture where you can see more clearly the extent of the piston at TDC.

If that piston is at TDC it should not be a problem, I often have mine sticking up a bit further than that after shortening the barrels. What you have there looks pretty near standard to me.

Back to pictures, is it an illusion of is the valve seat raised above the alloy of the head??.

Adam, re-reading your original post (and, full disclosure, also reading the comments of those guys who know far more about Bullets than I do) I had an idea. To eliminate the question of the difference between relative heights of the Samrat and original rockers, could you put washers on the studs between the head and the Samrats to make up the height to that of the originals? Just a packing shim under the base would do for a temporary trial assembly.

REgards, Mark
