Hi guys------- go to Page 30 in our hosts current catalogue for available piston details...Yes DAVE P, that European made one was fitted as Std. to late '90's European Bullets..Doesn't say if it's cast or forged but at only £70 I'd say they are cast.....A FORGED piston made by Omega at Std. CR of 6.5:1 is there at £145....An American-made High Compression piston ( 9:1) is priced at £88 and finally the Accralite Forged piston at 8.5 : 1 mentioned by SCOTTY is a cool £160 !!!...To go back to the start of this thread and CREAKY 45, I'd say there's your answer in that Omega forged piston...

----ahh!! posted that last one before seeing your latest input----Ships that pass in the night, eh ??----But you're right..I worry each time I venture out onto the Queens Highway with No. 4 Bullet ---I'm too slow for Dual carriageways/Motorways -- I can't stop as quick as that Pizza delivery boy on his 125 ChangWang disc braked moped and Brit.Bike riders say I'm "Cheating"........But what do I care ?? ----Stuffem-all and HOO-RAY for Father Ted !!

I have used the Hitchcocks so-called 9:1 piston in a good few engines. I find they are more like 7.75:1 when used with a standard height barrel and head gasket and I have had to shorten barrels to get 9:1 by my reckoning. Hitchcocks might even find they sell more of them if I am right, because 9:1 might frighten many potential buyers off! They don't have that big slot fore and aft in the oil ring groove, but numerous small holes - a much better, stronger idea [which has been around for years], so the top won't come off. I also like the crown shape. They are not available for a standard bore size, but I don't rate a standard Indian bore very highly anyway, so no great loss there. My choice just about every time, except for the racers, of course!

Hi guys.....Glad to hear ( see ? ) you say that Paul as my No4 Bullet has around 33.000Km ( Approx. 20,000 miles ) on the MoT certificate...... As it's new to me about 6 weeks ago I think that'll be my Winter project........Obtain a spare barrel and have it bored to take one of those forged "9" pistons in readyness.....To be honest I'm starting to pick up a bit of Slap when it's running so maybe just as well then ??

Hi Alan, I don't think the '9:1' pistons are forged, at least it doesn't say so in the catalogue. Regards, Paul.

Holes in piston crowns come from dropped valves, or retarded ign timing. (closed up points gap)

Fitting dual plugs goes a long way to reducing the potential impact of detonation or over retarded ign timing...

Thanks Paul---Yes, I see it now--I mis-read that page 30....Its definitely the OMEGA FORGED piston with a CR of 6.5:1 that I have in mind for all the reasons given so far..........My No2 Bullet had the 8.5 ACCRALITE piston fitted and certainly had a bit more torque on the hills ( Along with a re-worked Alloy barrel, a 30mm Amal and a shortened standard exhaust....)....Next step was to go the whole hog re}--- forged con-rod and roller big end....But that's another story of poverty, harsh times, the workhouse, trouble at 't mill etc... Things I do for 'er indoors !!

These are the photos of my 2 blown pistons. The one with the hole in the top is the 535 forged piston.

Although the top one has been damaged requiring replacement, it would appear that only the bottom piston has actually failed...
