I have used the Hitchcocks so-called 9:1 piston in a good few engines. I find they are more like 7.75:1 when used with a standard height barrel and head gasket and I have had to shorten barrels to get 9:1 by my reckoning. Hitchcocks might even find they sell more of them if I am right, because 9:1 might frighten many potential buyers off! They don't have that big slot fore and aft in the oil ring groove, but numerous small holes - a much better, stronger idea [which has been around for years], so the top won't come off. I also like the crown shape. They are not available for a standard bore size, but I don't rate a standard Indian bore very highly anyway, so no great loss there. My choice just about every time, except for the racers, of course!
