I think a cheap multimeter or even a bulb holder with two wires soldered on is the quickest way to track down the fault..

You really need to know if there is power to the coil when ignition turned on. If not then backtrack to ignition switch and fuse till you find where the power stops..

If you have power both sides of the coil then the fault lies in the points area or the wire connecting the two components..

Nice bike by the way, same colour as mine..

It Starts! Thanks for the help.

Here is a video: https://goo.gl/photos/1ZqZ75qdEkUAuPPr6

I've a few more things to change: Indicators, clutch cable, horn and do a few oils but i think i am there.

Does anyone know anything about tracking down a Certificate of Conformity for a 1997 Enfield Bullet Deluxe 500?
Because it is ten years old it isn't eligible for an MSVA, which is handy, but im trying to fill out all the sections possible on the V55/5.

Cheers, Adam

So, without looking at the video, what was causing the lack of spark?

Like the video, the dogs completely ignored the bike, that makes a change! As to registration try joining the Royal Enfield Owners Club, not expensive and their Machine Dating Officer is an accredited expert for the DVLA and has all the forms and procedures ready to go, no charge to Members.

Thanks Mark. I've spoken at length with the DVLA. They're happy, given its age, it just requires an MOT and the registration form. Ill let you know in a few weeks if that's the case, but I will definitely give the REOC a bell.

We replaced the condenser and points. Checked everything was set, generally had a fiddle, gave it a bump...and it worked.

Pretty chuffed!

Noldea if the DVLA state that is the case it is the case. Most of the necessary forms for such circumstances are downloadable from their website because some of the obscure ones are not easily available from a post office.
I have even got a registration document for a Chinese scooter that had been imported into Britain and not registered by the importer who went bust and legged it.

Not sure if anyone is interested but it passed its MOT today with no problems. Very chuffed!

Once home it did decide to have leak from the carb but I think just a clean out and that will be sorted. Must be some gunk in the fuel.

Thanks for your help, Adam.

Good news about the MOT. It might be worth flushing the tank and fuel line out and/or treating it to a decent in-line fuel filter. Hope DVLA sort the paperwork for you soon. A.

If anyone is interested, it is now registered insured and working. Took it for a quick ride today before the rain came. Cracking fun! Really really chuffed! Cheers, Adam.
