A good battery will measure about 13v immediately after charge but will then stabilise to about 12.6v after an hour or so and if there is no current draw should hold in the 12.4 to 12.6 area. The best way to check for current draw though is not by voltage but by measuring the current itself using a ammeter or current range on a multimeter. With everything off disconnect a lead from the battery and connect the meter between the lead and the battery terminal. Unless there is an alarm system there should be no current measured.

I am a little worried about Kevin the Meteor Minor.

The electrics were changed to 12V and it has points and distributer, and a new regulator for charging BUT...

A per the diagram, everything is live, the rear brake light, main lights, pilots, etc. the only thing that turning the key off does, is to stop the engine.

I am wondering about concealing a battery lead switch, or rewiring the ignition switch? Originality is one thing, but it's no good if you get a short and come back to a burnt out motorcycle!

I will have to check Kevin's wiring as the emergency start doesn't work (a couple of ignition switch wires don't match up with the diagram), but hopefully I can find a 'normally open' pair of contacts in the ignition switch to cut the battery when not running.

BING! That is why it is called an ignition switch!!! It only switches the ignition!!! Must be where the name came from then?

Got the powerbox fitted, easy installation.
Initial signs look good, revving engine with multimeter didn't reach 16+v as before but was 14 odd which I think is more like it. Time will tell, riding to Wakefield tomorrow so see how he goes! Tried reading current between neg terminal and lead, showing a small draw so somewhere there is indeed a short! How to find it though hmmmmmm
Keep you posted!

14 odd sounds good to me as for Kevin some battery isolation switches have a removable key not a security type of key but how many people walk around with one of those keys in there pocket
