Papa, l suggest you look at the original workshop tool. It doubles as the replacement and needs to be very different to the Bullet. Pics in the Twins Workshop manual. REgards, Mark

MARK.your suggestion to cut tghe Tappet(s) off level at the C/Case,
and allow ithe balance to drop down into the cam chamber below is
superb, particually as a all thread stud would be convinient for a
slide hammers's attachment. however, on measuring the tappet (whose
total length is 3 1/4") approx 1 3/8" protudes above the dase, hence
the 1 7/8 balance should drop down below and be removable in the approx
2" avaibable space there. Except for one thing; the camshaft bronze bush
protudes out down there and only allows it to drop 3/8" Too bad you can't
get a Dremel ih there and cut the foot off. VINCE, the tappet guides have
criumbled away. hence nothing for a vice to grip. 'tis doubtful a mere rubber
hammer would have sufficent clout, as they are really stuck in tight. Bottom line is
the guides are very, very, brittle and chip and crumble real easy even
with well cooked c/cases which are mandatory. hence care is needed to
re-install well lubed guides back in again. Regardless, am grateful again for
your responses

Forgive the sloppy pronuncation but the blog is not kind when
one dawdles writing, for Yea, you must sign in again and rewrite
the whole woeful tale all over again despite ticking the confirmation
tab over and over. Time to haul out my jug of mountain hoke and
realize there isn't a cospiracy on here related to crop cicles etc.

Gordon, I said grip the tappet in a vice not the guide, and if the cases are really hot 200c then the rubber hammer will be enough. infact if the cases are hot they often fall out like a main bearing. This was standard practise where i worked and never failed.

Vince,You're right,I realized you meant the tappet stubs to
be held in the vice after I replied. At 200C lots of things
would drop out, but my hot plate can't match your gas oven since
the garage is way out in the boon-docks. Nevertheless, thanks
for your tip, will try to access somewhere hotter when I instal
the new giudes in the replacement c/cases later

Hi Gordon, If its any help I'm talking about my household electric oven, by removing the shelves the case will fit in. lots of smoke when door is opened but no effect on post op cooking taste! I usually leave a head stud in to grip with a welding glove and a quick tap from 6in onto the wooden floor and out pop your main bearings/bushes etc . However alternative method is to pour boiling water over cases to get the temp up and then continue with a gas blowlamp (saves on gas getting temp up) Assuming of course we're only talking about bare cases.
