MARK.your suggestion to cut tghe Tappet(s) off level at the C/Case,
and allow ithe balance to drop down into the cam chamber below is
superb, particually as a all thread stud would be convinient for a
slide hammers's attachment. however, on measuring the tappet (whose
total length is 3 1/4") approx 1 3/8" protudes above the dase, hence
the 1 7/8 balance should drop down below and be removable in the approx
2" avaibable space there. Except for one thing; the camshaft bronze bush
protudes out down there and only allows it to drop 3/8" Too bad you can't
get a Dremel ih there and cut the foot off. VINCE, the tappet guides have
criumbled away. hence nothing for a vice to grip. 'tis doubtful a mere rubber
hammer would have sufficent clout, as they are really stuck in tight. Bottom line is
the guides are very, very, brittle and chip and crumble real easy even
with well cooked c/cases which are mandatory. hence care is needed to
re-install well lubed guides back in again. Regardless, am grateful again for
your responses
