Hi Ed

I've definitely seen it done, but a quick look on Google hasn't come up with any examples.

However - while acknowledging that I have an extremely impractical bike - I DO have to ask why?

I mean, if one were to list the advantages of a 'proper' rigid frame it would read

Low Seat Height (Looks Cool)

Low Ground Clearance (Looks Cool)
Looks Old Fashioned(Looks Cool)

Whereas, with the 'rod in place of a shock absorber' thing, it strikes me (apart from being a little quirky) you'll have bike that looks more or less the same but is really uncomfortable, handles less well, and is harder to ride.

Because I'm a big tart, I'm prepared to put up with a bike that (with the addition of its 40 degree rake and 2" ground clearance) is painful and a pig to ride, because...well see above.

Just saying...

Fair question Johnny. I'm not unduly worried about the ride as I've a couple more Bullets for long jaunts out. My Bobber will be just a bit of fun to build and to ride about town on smoother roads. I've a sprung saddle so that will assist a bit. In any case, the metal sections replacing the shocks would be custom made to look good and would in part be concealed behind some old ammo box 'paniers' that I would also fit as bolt ons.

Superb execution. I built an S8 Sunbeam into a bobber last year, it ended up displayed in the Belstaff shop window in Glasgow. Then someone bought it, sigh! Got two enfields just now, and think they are the dogs. One is an EFi, the other the last of the pre-unit classics with the benefit of ES. Hope to do a cafe racer and bobber. The future is enfields, not Triumph!

I recall seeing some some snaps of your S8 in the interweb. Very nice.

This winter, we're got some big plans for Slo Poke, involving a complete strip and rebuild, some frame mods, a half width front hub, inverted levers, Flanders risers and a 612 engine.

Yup if you google sunbeam s8 bobber bestaff shop glasgow it should probably still pop up.

Yours will fly with a 612 - it will be a blast to ride, wish I could get a shot!

love that look, very nice indeed! I am about to do the same with my Electra, but as I am using the hosts scrambles seat need to retain the rear subframe. Not decided yet if I will cut the subframe short, or leave as is and incorporate into the look. I am going to order the hosts alloy rear mudguard, cut it short (from the front) and install using the subframe mounting brackets. I may use spacers to lower the mudguard slightly from original position. Will fit side mounted plate and bates style rear stop/brake light. May use right hand rear footrest bracket to mount plate... Looking forward to getting started! Any ideas/suggestions welcome (though I apologise to the purists amongst you who will think this is sacrilege!)

Yes, starting to understand that the best thing to do to an Electra is to change it beyond recognition :)
