Hi all, still playing around with jetting on my 2003 Sixty5. Have needle set at max rich setting already with 117.5 main, 25 pilot, but not sure which needle jet.

When riding on about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle, doesn`t seem to be pulling right, went out yesterday and when accelerating I reached over and put choke on. Bike "shot" forwards with a much healthier sound from exhaust.

The slide is a No.3, standard, but I have machined 1/2 millimeter from bottom to give a 2.5 slide, which improved pickup.

The bike has, as I bought it, had clean air gubbins removed and pod filter fitted, and the jets are also as bought.

I am going to try either a 120 0r 125 main jet, but would like to improve half throttle mixture by fitting a bigger needle jet.

OK, my question, (finally), is how do I remove the needle jet? our hosts instructions are a little vague, saying it can`t be removed from float chamber end, and to remove top and remove jet. Which way, up from bottom, or down from top? I guess it`s tapped out from bottom after removing main jet and washer, but don`t want to start tapping without knowing.

Ray.

Pay attention to the spigot alignment when refitting as marked in picture..

Hi NETSHUBBY...... You machined 0.5mm ( 0.020" approx.) from the bottom of the slide which, as you say, will give it the performance equivalent to a 2.5....Did you remember to put a 0.5mm shim under the needle to bring it back to it's original position relative to the needle jet ??...........If not then you'll be running with the effect of lowering the needle by 1 division ie}---- you'll have weakened the mid-range mixture...Hence the improvement when putting the choke on...........

Hi Alan, yes i did put shim under the needle clip, not quite 0.20 thou, but i intend getting a 2.5 slide, this was just a try out.

The bike obviously is still running really lean, as witnessed by leap forward when choke applied.

Have yet to check needle valve, the needle is on it's richest setting, and i intend trying a 120 or 125 main jet, i modified a 500 superstar a while back and finished up with a 125 jet in that, if memory serves, with pod filter and Goldie silencer. Went like stink!

There was a receipt with the documents for the bike from a few years ago, for a 117.5 main and 25 pilot, which are fitted now. There was also a PO jet needle listed, the richer one, but don't know yet if that is fitted.

And so it goes on!

Ray.

PS, there is pic of the bike in the general, yellow, listing, under newbie pic tryout.
