Just another thought - my bike kicked-back violently once. It did start again after a couple of kicks, but was rattling and running rough. I took off the timing cover, to find a stripped oil pump spindle, half of the worm broken off and spread liberally inside the timing case, with lots of aluminium swarf. Further stripping showed both cam wheels were missing teeth and both cam spindles were bent. I surmise that the kick-back stripped the spindle and took a chunk off the worm. After starting the engine, the shrapnel was caught in the cam gears, forcing them apart and bending the cam spindles. I would have a look inside your timing case if I were you.
