All very well taking it back under warranty but if it is a quick fix it's not worth the hassle. Sounds like an earth fault which may be easy to trace. The common area sounds to be centred around the rear light cluster. I should check the wiring to and inside this. Perhaps it's just a dodgy bulb, bulb not seated correctly or connection to it.

Please, Frank, NO!!!
If there's even the slightest quality problem it should be taken immediately back to the VENDOR ie the dealer, who has the LEGAL responsibiity to resolve the problem. If even the slightest "niggles" weren't brought to the attention of RE then they'd have no reason to believe there's any problem.

The profit margins made by the average motorcycle dealer are so low nowadays, that they won't hesitate to let the manufacturers know accordingly.

I get what you say and I agree but faced with a choice of booking it in and riding it lord knows how far, no doubt in the pouring rain as sods law says it will be on that day, or spending a few minutes checking the obvious I know what I would do. No lessons will ne highlighted to India on a one off simple fault as this probably is.

people who tinker with new equipment take the risk of invalidating the warranty. .. You Frank may well be a time served auto electrician but I doubt the same could be said of southernsofty or he would not be asking advice here

Hi FRANK----------( The following is "Without Prejudice or Malice aforethought" )----Surely those "problems" you mentioned were taken into account by the owner when first purchased ??..........This fault might be a "one-off" to that individual rider ?...OK, yes---that's a possibility. But if, as I alluded to earlier, it's a DESIGN fault that's just starting to show-up with actual mileage use,( Maybe just a simple thing like a cable re-routing ??).. then the other THOUSANDS of 535 Conti. GT owners might like to be made aware, plus the Dealer's Technicians who will be doing the "Hands-On" maintenance will need to know as well..And the best way of achieving that is via the official Factory Internal Notification based on Customer Feedback.......How long is the Warranty actually for then ?........2 or 3 years ??.........And for a potentially "One-off" situation within that short period you're advocating a "Can't be r-sed" attitude ??......Well-- maybe that's why the Factory has the same feeling towards it's customers then ??...................... You can only reap what you sow, eh ??

Oh dear I seem to have stirred up a hornets nest. Southernsofty has asked for advice and it's been given including my pennies worth. Up to him now to weigh up the pros and cons of available options. I wouldn't lose much sleep over pushing a connector or bulb fully home even if I knew that by doing so I was denying the factory vital information to improve quality, especially if it saved me time and money taking it back. Perhaps i'm being selfish.

Mind you, a phone call, TxT or E-mail (plus photo) would be just as useful in getting the message through....At least that way they can't plead ignorance in the future !!..(Shame the's no EDIT feature on this forum )......
