I always think the names given are often a bit strange. Continental GT (Grand Tourer). It wouldn't be the bike of my choice to do a grand tour of the continent, be it Europe or any other.

I think the phrase "GT" back in the late sixties was meant to suggest something a little more tuned and lively than your deluxe model.

Think Ford Cortina GT.. Avenger GT etc. The letters being surpassed by GTI or TURBO everything. even the vac cleaner....

I agree Midge you wouldn't want to "tour" on a Triton... Still i'm pleased to see things are brightening up a little, That Phil WEST had me a little depressed there for a while..
Thanks lads..

Alan - like you I filled in the various boxes on the web site, and a guy from R.E. rang me back a few days later with the names of 4 dealers who could offer a test ride. However I took the call in the car (hands free) on my way back from DW Motorcycles in Scarborough where I'd already sorted things out. I think the new dealers are few and far between as my journey was the 50 or so miles from Hull to Scarborough. I never quite understand this sort of thing - in stock in Scarborough, a town of 50,000 people but not even a dealer in Hull, a city at the centre of a 600,000 population.

Hi All,

Got mine from North Cornwall M/Cs in Bude, I got chatting to Steve at the Ace cafe and he was so excited by the bikes- so when I decided to buy I rang him. I did not test ride one - sometimes you have to take a chance and after having 2 EFI models already I guessed it had to be pretty good. Still very pleased with mine, have had a good look round it now and the quality is far better than other models.

Hi all,

Well I have just bought one, picked it up on Friday having part-exed my 2003 Bullet Clubman. As long as you can accept the limited performance I reckon it is a great little bike. It is certainly comfortable as I did just over 80 miles on Friday with no issues whatsoever and did a further 50 this morning - much, much better than the Clubman! As for vibrations, yes at 4,000rpm plus it is noticeable, but this is about 65 mph so not an issue outside of motorways where you would spend more time at these and higher revs but this is not a motorway bike, it is a British A and B road bike and it is really nice for that. As long as it proves reliable and the build quality is OK (and I have to say there are a couple of worries there with some obviously poorly protected wiring and connectors) I think it will be a great success for Enfield. I have had a modern Triumph Bonnie and Thruxton and it is nicer to ride than these in my opinion, although obviously a lot slower.

If you are interested - find a dealer and get a decent test ride, don't rely on magazine reviews.

I got mine from DW in Scarborough as well - they seem a nice, traditional local dealer and were very helpful.

I cannot help Alan as I don't know what insurance group it is, but I was told on the phone that there was no chnage over my old Bullet Clubman so that must be a clue.

Hi SteveL,
Congratulations on the GT! I've written a large feature on the bike for The Royal Enfield magazine Issue 8. It would be great if you could jot down your thoughts about the bike and include a photo of yourself with the bike to give a real owners view, someone that has actually bought one. Simply email it to [email protected] Same goes to Arthur if he is up for it. Best regards Paul.
