Freddy, I would make up a dipstick using a 1m length of 6mm aluminium tubing available from a DIY merchant. Paint a 1cm wide band around it between 37 and 38cm from the bottom and plug the end of the tube with araldite or filler to prevent oil being drawn out inside the tube. With 200ml of oil in each leg the level should be up within the band.I use 10w-30 fork oil with no problem. The first time I drained mine after 8000miles I found only about 100ml in each leg. What happened to the rest I've no idea, no leaks etc. Filling to the correct level didn't seem to affect ride quality either.

Thanks Pete
Nuts on, tap them up & pump Thanks for the tip
Washers already annealed ready to go back on

Thanks Frank
I’ll Pop down and see if B&Q has any of this tube. By the way what would 6mm ally tube be used for?

Alan I know what you mean.

Regards Fred

-------------- and, of course if I were to read it properly I would have put THIS ONE up instead !!!------------ http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/hardware/iro ... mm-9283888 -------------- which is, as you can see, a 6mm rod AND cheaper to boot as well--------------- NOW can I go and play wiv me bikes mummy ???

The solution here is........oops sorry, I thought it was Ronnie Brker asking about Four Coils to go with his Fork 'andles.

Yes 6mm rod would be better but tube is what b&q had so tube it was. 8mm would be too thick to go down to the bottom of the fork.

On the old series forks you simply undo the little BA plug in the middle of the securing nut at the bottom of each leg then fill them up until the oil starts to drip out. I presume the later series doesn't have this function?
