Considering what you have already done and checked - you could find the problem is unwanted movement of the Clutch Basket that houses the clutch plates. You could try tightening everything up. But it might be down to wear on the basket.
I have ridden lots of the iron barrelled bullets and while all of the clutches felt different, they all worked easily and properly, sometimes helped by the more basic steps mentioned in this thread. The only bike I ever had the kind of impossibly stiff action you are talking about is on my Year 2000 500cc. - It ended up being down to a worn clutch basket moving around in it's sitting.
