Wile returning from a afternoon ride my Enfield decided to stop!
I have a Electra EFI its on a 10 plate, what happened was I had just pulled in to my drive wile trying to find neutral the engine stopped and the lights switched off, so I switched the ignition off then back on again nothing.
I then proceeded to check the kill switch, it was correct so checked the ignition switch and it was fine but there was a bit of wet stuff in there could this be the problem, I mean there was slight condensation but that was it any advise would be appreciated.thank you

It would only take a moment to check the main fuse.

Brake light and horn working?

Check the side stand switch, i dont own an efi but i understand from others this can cause probs.

Hi Foz, this happened to me on my EFI a few times. Here are a few things to check:

Side stand switch (sticks on - remove or unplug it)
Rear wiring harness (fouls as it passes between plastic and metal on rear mudguard - check wiring, unplug harness at the point it goes through the rear mudguard to test it)
Kill switch side: open and clean contacts
Clutch switch side: as before
Remove headlight and check wiring - I had a few issues here which caused shorting
Check fuses
Try kicking instead of ES

It will be an easy fix once you've found the problem... Honest :)

If the bike is as young as two years old it doesn't speak volumes for quality control on those electrics, does it..? Blimey! I'd expect those issues thirty years ago.

Every one of my suggestions results from a problem on my 4 year old bike. All easy fixes, and some caused by the salty wet roads of Scotland and all year round riding. It's not necessarily the bike - but then again, this is exactly why I bought an RE... it's a hobby AND transport. Riding habits and conditions play a part in reliability too.

i read with interest stringers, quality control comment on the electrics, poor wiring routing is a problem around the efi mudguard ,side stand switch gets all the road grime salt etc i,m sure they don,t have many good roads in india and i,m sure they don,t use much salt on the dirt tracks ,electrics exsposed to the uk elements fail on any bike of any origin ,i know i,ve had enough ,japanese ,english, italian etc etc certainly a long time before thirty years passes,i,ve seen electrical problems on Hondas in less than 6 months especially in the winter ,on the plus side i have an 7year old bullet that i,ve owned for 3 years and have only had 1 problem and that was a diesel injector pump selonoid!!from china!atb paul.

Cheers Michael
It was as you said the harness at the mud guard, it was wedged and snagged,
Also one of the fuse' had blown proberly to do with the harnes.
I don't supose anyone knows of a better way to reroute the harness?

There are only three wires in the rear harness, you could easily make a new one if its kaput - I had to a couple of weeks ago. Also, look at the way it goes through the mudguard at the tail light end - replicate that at the other end, use a rubber grommet and a small drilled hole and the problem should be solved. Alternatively, reinforce the harness at the pinch point between the plastic and steel bits of the guard.

FOZ DRILL A HOLE IN THE MUDGUARD BIG ENOUGH TO GET THE WIRES THROUGH AND PUT A RUBBER GROMMET IT JOB DONE WHY THE INDIANS DIDN,T DO THAT I,LL NEVER KNOW MY HELLECTRA HAS THAT MOD AND ALSO MY MATES EFI AS HE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM A MONTH AGO ATB PAUL.
