Was going to start similar post but find have been beaten to it.After 6 frustrating months with my new Classic ,8 weeks of those having been off the road for various reasons my bike has been returned to me,mended by the wizards at Wats.Squire.Have been out for a proper ride today in the sunshine so to all those folk who have asked me over the last few months why on earth did I buy a Royal Enfield, I can say honestly and with a big smile on my face that riding one is BLOODY MARVELOUS!!!

Hi Cath--------- glad to see you back in the postings and back on the road !! What was the eventual diagnosis then ??  I've always found W.S to be very helpful---especially with my previous Bullet Sixty Five warranty Cylinder Head replacement. What's your general part of the country then ? Any good trails or cosy pubs tucked away ?? Yes, I know what you mean about a ride on the Enfield. I take the '76 GL1000 out for the day, it does what's asked of it and I get concerned if something has gone wrong. I take the Bullet out and it's on  back roads and country lanes----a steady 50 ish---time to actually see the scenery. And when I get home ( a few hours later than on the Wing ) I'm pleased that all my efforts, phone calls, forum chats etc have paid off and all went well.    A modified motto might be }-----" Sieze the day, hang on to the Bullet"

First Bike I got once Passing my Test in 1973 was a 350 Bullet cost me about £75 pounds plus me Me old Honda 90  for Late 1960s model it had been in the Bike shop for ages till I brought it cheap as it was all I could afford as a 17 year old apprentice.

Wish id never sold that bike but I traded it in for a SR500 single Yamaha a few years later biggest mistake I made. Few more jap middle wights then when back to a Enfield in the mid ninety's on a 500 Bullet now have Two Bullets A 500 Sportsman & a 500 four speed kick only both old Iron barrels and I'm keeping them as long as possible.

First ride was a Honda Elsnore 250 2 stoke trailbike on the park down the road at 15. I was like Toad in Wind in the Willows. Vespa scooters and the Benelli and lots of loans. A T350 Suzuki was an early score. A friend of my older brother left it at our house and I rode it all Saturday and Sunday in the pouring rain. I've lost count now it's the most fun you can have in a seated position ( over twenty minutes anyway). There was a brief spell in wilderness when the children were small but I'm back with a vengeance now. I'd very much like a 450 Mklll Ducati but I reckon the 350 Bitsa is not a bad approximation and I'd love to do the same mods on a 500. higher comp better cams and bigger carb with the possible addition of an alloy barrel and a roller big end. Excuse the rave but I've been up at the local ;)

Hello to Alan R,I'm in N.Devon country, where it is wet most of the time or seems like it.Despite being a beautiful sunny day today the ride to and from work was in thick fog.I know there are Enfields in the vicinity but havn't met anyone yet.Am hoping that Lucky Eddie's knees have defrosted and that he will be out on Ethel on Wed. Stan's problem seemed to be in a wiring loom, havn't had the exact details yet but he was running very rich and a new EFI didn't cure the problem.Hopefully it is all sorted now, found Wats S very helpful esp Mike Williams who must have got a little fed up with my phone calls but was always the perfect gentAt least I feel I have some support.Would be nice to make some of the rallies this year but don't feel v.confidant about going too far on my own yet.Find this forum fascinating, you guys seem to know so much though I do seem to end up with more to worry about.I mean Spragg Clutch, what the hell is that all about?maybe ignorance is bliss in my case. regards Cath

Hello Cath -------- well, well, North "Debon" and a bike called Stan. A quick story for you }-------------I joined the Royal Navy as an Apprentice Marine Engineer in Sept. 1965 at HMS Fisgard, Torpoint, Cornwall. At week-ends I would ride down to the ferry, cross to Plymouth and continue over to Brixham where my Mum's elder brother, Uncle Stan & Autie Betty lived. In his day he was a very keen biker, putting in big miles and rode all sorts but the favourite was a 1954 BSA B33 500cc single (OYK 773 or "oik," as he called it )-----BSA's equivalent of our Bullets. He was a Radio & Television engineer having run 2 shops in Brixham and Torquay for many years. In retirement he built his own computers and we kept in touch via E-mail. I went down there not so long ago on my modern Triumph 3-cyl. Thunderbird which he really enjoyed being shown over--- but declined a pillion ride. He passed away last year aged 90. The spragg clutch?? Wel you've actually used the Chennai factory's motto }---------- ignorance is bliss.  And to finish off with your recent ride-out and to feely mis-quote Shakespear }--" Now, is the winter of our discontent made glorious Summer by this son of ---Redditch (?)"  Seems to work, don't you think ??

Hey Cath, my knees had thawed nicely until last sunday when I road into that freezing fog bank over Bideford! There was brilliant sunshine over Barny so I got fooled into a ride out. If you'd like to mail me perhaps we could arrange to meet up and head for the bikers cafe on the link road over Rackenford way?I know there are other Enfields local to me cos I see them regularly. Perhaps its time we all got to know each other and maybe make wednesdays a regular thing. My email addy is :-

Hiya Jimmer,

I posted my email addy for Cath, you're welcome to mail me too, lets try and arrange something. By the time you get up this way you'll be needing a cuppa and bacon butty, I guess its about 30miles from Crediton up to Barny?
