ALARM BELLS! They don't know what they are doing. There is nothing the ECU can do to create those symptoms. The fact that they are even thinking that way strongly suggests they are adopting the time-honoured "poke and hope" system of fault location, which almost every garage technician in the land employs when working with "electrics".

Take it off them as soon as possible and get it to an Enfield dealer. They probably won't know anything about electrics either (why do mechanics struggle so much with it?), but they may well recognise the symptoms.

Ive told them enough is enough now, they've had thier chance but now it's time for them to put the bike back together and I'll get it to the dealer!

I only went to these guys because it was convenient and they could start on it straight away but let that be a lesson to me. ... £150 down and all I have to show for it is a new battery and a couple of new connection blocks.

It REALLY pisses me off that garages charge by the hour, rather than charging for the repair. It encourages them to work slowly, and it means they get the same amount of money whether they know what they are doing or not, so they have no reason at all to act professionally and get themselves trained. By rights you shouldn't have to pay them anything if they haven't mended it.

I had an Audi 100 with an intermittent misfire, so took it to a tuning specialist with loads of diagnostics kit. He messed with it for two hours and gave up, saying he couldn't find the fault. Then the bastard charged me £90 for the privilege. I went away with my car EXACTLY the same, but £90 poorer. Totally unacceptable.

Can you imagine taking your watch to a jeweller and them saying "Sorry, I can't fix it. That'll be fifty quid please." Or a plumber charging you a hundred and fifty quid on top of his standard callout charge for NOT fixing the leak? It would be outrageous.

I hate that garages can get away with it. Especially when most garage mechanics are too f***ing dim to wipe their own arse, never mind mend your car or motorcycle.
