Well, SIGH! I suppose some of us are just plain lucky, and some of us are not.I have at least three brand new NGK standard plugs which failed after approximately 50kms, I think one was no good from the start; it would not idle properly, but fitting another new plug fixed that. I once had a 1 litre ice cream container nearly full of plugs from my 1969 Yamaha YL1 100cc two-stroke twin (which were notorious spark plug destroyers)they were goosed after about 300kms. If only iridium plugs were around in those days; another SIGH! So how many of you home mechanics have torn your hair out trying to fix a fault in your bike`s engine, but kept ignoring the spark plug: because 'it is a brand-new one', only to find that the problem WAS the new spark plug?

There was talk of fake NGK's on the market which might be the cause of the 50km failures. My friend with the 1935 Panther runs a mica insulated Lodge H1 of a similar vintage in it which works perfectly and has ridden him the length of the majority of New Zealand and back. I do remember having the loan of a GT550 Suzuki triple in the late 70's and it constantly fouled centre plugs. That of course was a tuning issue. My feeling is that the spark plug is a bit like a canary in a coal mine and if you are chewing through them, unless they are fakes, there are tuning issue to be addressed.

Just to stoke the flames a bit, I use a champion n3. In my opinion better than the br8 I used to use.
Hope thats not created to much grief!
