Just an update. Been painting the tank (nothing fancy, brushed on machine enamel).
Front fits like a standard tank. I cable tied a piece of grey foam pipe insulation to the top tube of the frame and jammed the tank down onto it.

I found a place selling tank straps. A thick rubber band with an eye on either end. I cut a slice of steel tube to make a spacer on either side of the rear tank/headsteady bolt for the eyes to slip over then simply pop it up over the tab thingy on the tank.

Fuel tap comes perilously close to the head. This will do for now but I'll pop a right side-exit one on my next order from somewhere that does such things.
