Just an update. Been painting the tank (nothing fancy, brushed on machine enamel).

Front fits like a standard tank. I cable tied a piece of grey foam pipe insulation to the top tube of the frame and jammed the tank down onto it.

I found a place selling tank straps. A thick rubber band with an eye on either end. I cut a slice of steel tube to make a spacer on either side of the rear tank/headsteady bolt for the eyes to slip over then simply pop it up over the tab thingy on the tank.

Fuel tap comes perilously close to the head. This will do for now but I'll pop a right side-exit one on my next order from somewhere that does such things.

Good solution - can you please tell me the name of the company you got the strap with the eyes on from.

I need something like that for a non bike related project.

They are called carrot cycles. I use them for the more complex bespoke cables I can't be othered to do myself/don't trust my soldering for. Usually front brake ones.

Battery box. I've got a dinky little AGM battery in there and the majority of the electrical connections so it's just multicore cables coming in and out of it for a bit more water protection.

I do tend to rub my leg on it a bit, may try to find something a bit smaller in future. It's not actually in the way as such though.

Hi, it should keep the battery out of the elements. I wouldnt have thought it was any bigger than the old style rubber battery mount. Just as a footnote, If you look at pictures of the 1951 isdt 500 twin that has the air filter and battery are reversed. Vince
