I don’t want to make you paranoid, but if you think you’ve done the valves on the wrong stroke, you could end up with bent valves. I had this on a CB500T. PO bent one.

I’d be tempted in your case to get the rocker cover off, then you would see when all four valves ( is it 4 valve?) lobes are facing away from the springs when aligned with the mark. You could then set the clearances correctly and then you’d be back to a good point.

Thanks for the input.

Yes I will be taking the covers off , after I have checked out the other suggestions posted here. I believe i have set the two valves correctly on the correct stroke before starting but want to check this before starting the bike again. I didn't fire it up it when the clearances looked wrong just readjusted until the lock nut didn't spoil the settings.

If you have set them on the wrong tdc it wont bend a valve.
The wrong tdc is when the valves are just over lapping, ie exhaust just closing and inlet start to open.
If you set the clearance then, they will be much too wide at the correct tdc when both valves are closed.
Would be very noisy rattling when running.
Hope you get it all sorted.👍

Can't really see in the pictures but looking at the frame covers etc I suspect this is the fuel injected model not carb???

If so attempt to start then stop after about 5 seconds and looking at your mileage fuel pump and tank filter will be the culprit. Just undo the cover on the bottom of the tank to remove. Obviously if carb model not this and as suggested previously check your alternator for failed windings while you are at it.

Fixed! Thank you all so much for the inputs.
What I tried -
Adjusted the valves again
Checked fuel pump
Replaced fuel
Checked air filter
Checked for cracks etc in all breather pipes and anything to do with o2
Recharged battery
Started and same thing.

So, went back to the spark plug.
(I was reluctant to take it out again as had wrenched it in as top of thread in cylinder head thread broken)

Took it out and aluminium filings had got into the gap!

Cleaned it and reinserted with a bit of grease on the threads to catch any more metal , took out to check no more filings then replaced.

Bike fired up as normal!

Now am going to change the oil, just in case..

Super, and this is s super forum thanks again guys
