I fitted a set of these to the front of my Him - took it out for its first ride today after fitting them and it sounded like a strip of emery cloth was being rubbed on the disc whenever I put the brake on and there is also loads of black dust.

It makes such a graunching sound I took the caliper off to check that everyhing is OK and it all appeared to be in order.

I only ended going about a 1/4 of a mile as I was so concerned by the graunching / rubbing sound - a bit like when a piece of gravel gets stuck in a car disk, just does not sound right, but brake does feel much more effectiv.

Is this just the pads bedding in or is there something not right here?

Update.

Took the caliper off to double check that all was OK, and it was.

Clocked up 60 miles on it today doing essential travel pads still make a noise when you brake but seems to have more bite than it did.

Probably take a few more miles yet to bed them in.

I find sintered pads do sound a bit more graunchy than standard ones. Stands to reason because they have metal particles embedded in them.

If you' are concerned about it rubbing, having had issues with rubbing pads on other bikes I can assure you that they generate a hell of a lot of heat if they are doing so. An easy test would be to ride a couple of miles up the road, stop without using that brake and see if the disc is hot. It shouldn't be.

It's worth checking because if the pad is binding, it can overheat the brake fluid, this can either cause the brake to apply itself or it can boil the fluid leading to total brake fade.

NB: If the disc is hot it can be VERY hot. Hot enough to burn you instantly through a leather bike glove -ask me how I know! I usually flick spit at it first to see if it hisses. If that's ok, I tap it with a wet finger, then touch it properly.

You don't say for which bike. These are top rated pads. Have you checked that they are compatible with your bike there was a change from Pricol to Brembo on C5 and B5 in late 2015 There is an alternative image next to the part on the site to enable you to identify the correct shaped pads for your bike

Pretty sure that the pads are not rubbing - no signs of the caliper pistons being seized or anything nasty like that.

On the next ride I will as suggested check disc temperature,, I have also learnt just how hot a disc can get, I once burnt my fingers on the front disc on my Kawasaki, almost instant - ouch !!

Mine is a 2019 model so 888008 is compatible according to our hosts.
