I used to think the sidecar story was an old wife's tale until I did it myself. Had been riding a trials sidecar then went out on the Bullet, didn't forget to put my foot down, but left it way too late and fell flat on my side. Fortunately it was on a track in the Lakedistrict without an audience. It did make me chuckle.
its all about concentration or lack of it, thankfully I only hurt my pride when I forgot........
I'd driven a combination for a few weeks and thought I was quite used to it but still ended up going for a right turn and just forgot what to do - do I slow down or speed up? brake or accelerate? my mind went blank.......
thankfully I wobbled and weaved around the corner and got away with it- never did it again though

Talking of windows on the side of the bike – I took delivery of a 350 Honda, after the previous owner had just finished an immaculate restoration. After thinking I ought not to get on it too quickly, I decided to take it for a run at once. It was a very top-heavy bike and I’d parked on a piece of gravel-covered ground that fell away to my left. Sitting on the bike I looked down to the engine – in a moment the bike keeled over to my left, my leg couldn't reach the ground and pinned me to the ground – with fuel spilling out of the tank. Thankfully no damage – except to my pride and a mirror!

I could write a book about the "character building" moments in my 72 years.
Around 400 stitches, broken ribs, multiple fractures left leg, damaged knee cap, various dislocations and so many near to death experiences I have lost count.

Dropped my bike today! My Classic 500!

Haven’t done this since 1980. Parked at work went to put something in my top box and bike tilted right slightly.
Noticed I’d parked ever so slightly to the right of some concrete and the right side of main stand had popped off concrete and onto gravel.
Thought nothing of it and went to left side of bike to get it off stand; mistake...
As I rocked it, it dug a little deeper and slowly fell away from me. Trying to stop it, didn’t realise how heavy the Classic was.

Anyway, went round to pick it up, angry/cheesed. But damage? Hope it’s not the tank or exhaust or side panels... Trepidation...

Well, I love the bike even more now. Thank god for fixed foot rests.

Total damage... scratched bar end weight, scratched mirror, scuffed foot peg rubber.

I’m pleased I got off so lightly. Old enough to admit this and no longer embarrassed about the drop, it was my stupidity.
