I'm about to have a new Bullet Trials (Green frame) delivered. Yippee. I intend to leave the bike standard. Well almost. I'm quite keen to remove the air injection foibles using the Hitchcocks elimination kit. This is partly for aesthetic reasons but also I don't like the idea of it super-heating the exhaust manifold and pipe and also it could cause a reliability issue if the switching mechanism failed. Some use it to reduced popping in free-flow exhausts but as I said, I won't be making any other modifications. Does anyone have any experience of the modification on a euro4 bike and is all fine with subsequent operation? I have found a lot of references to this subject with regards then Himalayan but not much for the 500.

I temporarily deleted the air injection system to check if it was the cause for some strange noise from the cylinder head on my 2017 C5. Of course, it was not ...... .
During riding, it makes no difference if the air system is installed or not. The only purpose of the system is to quicker heat up the oxygen sensor when the engine is cold to reduce the emission of hydrocarbons. After about two minutes, the system is automatically switched off and the ECU works in a closed loop mode. For the sake of environmental protection the air injection system is a good idea to vave it, as well as the charcoal canister.
If there is a popping issue from the exhaust at an unmodified engine and exhaust system, one should check the air switch off valve, the wiring and the tightness of the overall system.

Don't think your understanding the correct function on the air injection system. It is not there to heat up the lambda sensor.
The sensor has its own built in heater to help get it to operating temperature more quickly.
The ecu does not use lambda output on cold engine.
The air injection is there to allow air into the exhaust, under certain conditions, to help burn any unburnt exhaust gasses.
Like when cruising around town.
Good for the environment but does no benefit to the bike.
