EFI system itself requires surprisingly little power, when I bought mine it had stood a long time and the battery was showing 8V, so proper dead. Pump primed ok and kick started happily, clocks were behaving strangely though. I only like kicking it over when nobody is around, always first kick then. Soon as someone is watching a dozen kicks interspersed with some choice language

That’s the point I’m making.. sort of.. the bike starts a little easier with the kick start than the electric start.; note, they both start reasonably well. Sometimes takes a number of turns to catch with the electric start. Too new at 2017 for that is my thinking.

As the battery has good charge, I would expect it to start as well with the electric start. All we want/need is a spark, so it makes me wonder what is happening.

The voltage drop caused by the load on the starter motor weakens the spark. My Honda CB750, which doesn’t get used regularly, suffers from exactly the same issue when the battery is low.
