The cams have bushes in them. You can tell if they are worn because they wear smooth. Not being an engineer I don't know what this type of bush is called but when new they allow oil to sit in the bush. They are fitted on the gearbox shafts too; I have replaced all mine there. TBH I'd have looked at it myself. Hitchcock's sell the bushes, I believe. That said the dealer/importer/whoever is probably talking out of an orifice other than their mouth, rather like the German one that Harald had to deal with. One of the biggest issues with current RE bikes is the variable knowledge and servicing standards (and probably lack of training in specific models) of the dealers. I won't buy another until they raise their game, apart from which there isn't a dealer in my County, the original supplier of my bike having dabbled with them and given it up as a bad job.
You’re probably thinking of sintered bronze bushes. They are made from compressed metal granules and are porous.

Reading through this is like going back to the late 70's and running the last of the Meriden Triumphs. Dealers who couldn't care less with no factory spares back up. The Enfield dealer (pre moto gb) that I stuck with, did know their stuff, and did a very good job, and still do. The last time I was in, they were just completing an engine rebuild on a 535 GT that had dropped a valve. They chucked the franchise when a showroom full of shiny bikes was the order of the day, rather than a quality back up and good customer service. I'll actually be glad when the warranty on my current bike runs out, because I won't have to endure the disappointment of getting "flannel" whenever I phone the main dealer with a problem. By the time I've worn the bike out I'll be ready for a twist and go scooter anyway. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my ride on an Interceptor, I wouldn't have one based on the experience I've had with the new breed of dealer. Nostalgia can be good for sales, but I'd quite happily do without the 1970's customer care part of it.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned the obvious - at least the obvious on this forum.
Have you check with our hosts for this part for a 500 - whatever it is - as I'd be very surprised if they do not have it on the shelf. :)

Definitely. And if possible, get someone who is familiar/knows Enfields to have a look at the bike.

Definitely. And if possible, get someone who is familiar/knows Enfields to have a look at the bike, and let moto gb know about your displeasure.
