Yes, you are. We are talking about the o ring that seals the oil pump outlet on the pump itself. When replacing the outer timing cover it is essential that the o ring is not displaced. Over time, once compressed by tightening the outer cover fasteners it tends to crumble and should be renewed each time the outer cover is removed. The one in the generator is a much harder brown seal that doesn’t give much trouble AFAIK.
