Might take a look At the mute. I think I did last year, but in my stupidity thought it was too small as I measured my silencer and not the down pipe

Stinkwheel, sounds like we need to have a chat about carb settings if your idle was better with the mute ;)

Well, received the mute today.

Stuck a DB meter on my phone. Took a reading before and after..... couldn’t hear or read any difference!

STOP READING NOW...

Unless you want to tut, look to the heavens or giggle at a buffoon!

Due to a slight kink in the down pipe where it bolts to the engine, I could only get the mute in about four inches by hand. I continued to.... erm.. tap it and got it in about six inches or so. There was now no way in hell it was going In further or coming out!
So, it was sticking back about five inches and only about two inches would go into the silencer before it hit the mounting nut.

The only option was to cut off about three inches which then detached the inner mute from the outer.....

So now I have a bike that sounds the same, a stuck bit of mute and a wobbly bit of mute. I could always remove the wobbly bit, but what the heck, let’s go for a total screw up of a fitting!

Today endeth the lesson in Barney Bodgetry.

I was thinking more of a mute for the SILENCER tail pipe. Doesn't always work, either, Not A Fury has spat two of them out.

Well I managed to get it out, removing the front pipe, into the shed, judicious heat and hitting. Actually wouldn’t come out until I drilled a hole through it, put through a bar and hit the bar.

Going back to your comment Stinkwheel, it wouldn’t fit more than two inches into the silencer due to the position of the silencer frame mount.

Anyway, I’ve decided to go another way, what’s money!!!! I’ve ordered some wadding and will wrap the removable baffle at the end of the silencer and see. If that doesn’t work, then I will leave as is.

It’s a shame, it’s the first bike I’ve had that my wife does not want to go on, as she finds it far too loud, even with ear plugs. We’ve been all over Europe on different bikes, but just finds Gupta too much. It is loud. I think you’ve said it before, it’s more of a crack than a thump. Even someone at work said it’s too loud.

Too loud man, too piercing!

The OTHER option, I didn't check if this has already been mentioned, is the old Watsonian-Squire "sports" silencer as offered by the old importers. This was made for them by Brituro, fitted to 500s (and 350s with the expanded pipe end like yours), though I'm not sure if Brituro is still trading. There will still be some about. I had one on my Electra-X as part of their go-faster kit and it was still a bit quieter than the Indian shorty I replaced it with.

Just out of interest, I wrapped the removable end baffle with wadding. Too much initially, couldn’t get it back in!.

Anyway, once done I went out. I ‘think’ the ‘crack had gone and it was more of a ‘crump’.....
Tried the decibel app and showed no difference, arguably slightly higher.

But, more importantly. It destroyed my power. Now obviously I could go through the re-jetting I went though last year, but I’d got my Amal running very nicely, so decided to remove the wadding and just have to leave as is.
Another ride and back to normal :D
