Bored today, so,

Magnetic ring at the bottom of the float.

Cut down alloy cigar tube. Just the right size to let the float move freely up and down and yet thin enough to fit the mounting hole in the tank.
Image

A small hole to let fuel in and out and a similar hole on the top to prevent air locks.
Image

So now the float can only go up and down at a speed controlled by the size of the hole.

That's neat. Just for the record a common fault with the fuel sender in an EFI RE is that the ethanol in the rubbish fuel we endure these days attacks the plastic, ultimately dissolving the float. This is a bigger problem in the USA where they've had 10% ethanol for years. Whether it affects the later I've Euro IV bikes or not I don't know.

Still only 5% ethanol in uk so not seen any problems, yet.
Just for info, the outside of the float is 18mm, the inside of my cigar tube is 19mm and the outside is 19.50mm.
Rather than permanently bond the tube to the sensor I made a small spacer from an alloy crush washer.
This a tight push fit on the sensor and is a nice push fit for the tube.

Been thinking about this, it doesn't need to be closed at the top?
Just a small hole a t the bottom?
I wonder if I can turn alloy that thin. I would need to make an arbour to support it I think.
Just going to the shed!
