Hi

I have got round to overhauling the front forks that I have now successfully removed. The problem I now have is that cannot remove the fork cover tube and bush to replace missing rubbers. They are parts 9,10,11 on page http://www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/pa ... Front_Fork_

Do I need to lowerthe fork stem to do this? I can undo the steering stem nut and casquette clip bolt but the stem seems very firmly held in place. Have I missed something very obvious? Any advice most welcome.

Hi, As you suspected you need to drop the stem to allow the part 10 to drop. Then the covers can be detached sideways once the bolts are removed. To lower the stem release clamp and after undoing main nut a few turns hit it with a rubber mallet. If it has not been removed for years there maybe corrosion so apply heat and wd40. Vince

Thanks you vince - just got back from the garage. After much WD40 and cups of tea I was eventually able to firmly drift the stem out. It was very rusty. I just don't like to hit bikes. Thanks
