Anyone here used this below on an electra x i was told it should help. the sprag clutch went on mine last week and don't want to spend all that money putting a new one on if it can go again the nect day, but my enfield is easy to kick when cold but a pig when hot and kicks back all the time ? if i can get it to kick over easy i will remove the sprag. If not would have to sell the bike which i don't want to do really i love it.

I don't know the Electra but reading the explanation of the Woodruff key set in the Accessory Catalogue it seems that the Electra has fixed timing and therefore if it's wrong you have to move the position of the timing rotor. (I'm simplifying a bit, largely because it's a mystery to me!) The explanation says Electras that Hitchcocks have tested vary by up to 7 degrees! Your motor sounds like it is running very advanced, kicking back when hot is a classic sign of over-advanced ignition. I think I'd just buy the 8 degree key and install that? Anyone else think so?

Mark M they go from 2 to 8 they did say buy them all but i think your right and try 8 because it's impossible to kick when hot.

I used to have an Electra X (sold it a while ago) and had a similar problem. Tried all different woodruff keys of differing offsets but it still kicked back. Turned out to be a dodgy coil which was firing when it wanted to. I guess the question is whether this has started to happen recently or if it has always kicked back. If it’s just started I’d investigate the coil first. If it’s always been ‘kick-backy’ then yes, maybe you need to retard it a bit.

The other point to make is that it’s safer to start (electrically) by pulling the decompressor and allowing the motor to spin on the starter before releasing the decompressor. Gives the sprag an easier life!

PO51UHD thank you for the reply it's been like this since i have owned it which is just over 12 months now. i was not going to fit the sprag again just leave it kick start. I never knew you could pull the decompressor then press start let it turn then let go of the decompressor

ericpode I have no idea what this pulser coil is and going to get my local bike shop to do the work so trying to find best solution and if not just sell it and get another bike.

ericpode no i never i only used when cold to kick start the bike. is there a video showing how your meant to do this ? wish i could speak to you on the phone to pick your brains

And a very poorly designed one at that
