I naively purchased a brand new 500 Classic Chrome ABS in India in June last year and imported it to the UK. I am still struggling to register it. Any advise would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Hi there.
I imported two bullets from Bombay, one in 93 and another in 94. I still have both and they are still running well (apart from 1st gear jumping on the 93 model)
Anyway, this was quite a long time ago and if memory serves the UK registration at that time was fairly straightforward. Bill of lading, customs form, purchase receipt and I was good to go.
The bad news— I also bought another bullet in 98 or 99 for a friend in France. The bike arrived ok in Le Havre, but he found it impossible to register it there, something about the dealer franchise. He ended up passing it over to a dealer.
I have heard that these days the registration of foreign ie non EU cars and bikes are difficult to register thanks to E U rules and regulations, certificate of conformity etc. etc.

Perhaps things will change after 31st December.

Good luck. (I would be interested to hear how you get on)

I'm not sure if you are aware of " Itchy Boots" - a Dutch adventurer who bought an Indian Himalayan in India and rode it back - she became quite famous with her blog, on return to Holland She was refused point blank to register her bike, Luckily for her - a local dealer gave her a brand new EU model so presumeably He could capitalise on her adventures. I would say that your goose is cooked !

Joking apart - I would take the bull by the horns - phone the DVLA and explain the situation - these days they are very, very customer friendly and I am sure there is a registration pack and you may need to jump through some hoops but I feel sure you will be successful - please let us know how you get on.

The problem Noraly had and she did explain it in detail is technically she did not own the bike which meant she could never legally register it in the Netherlands.
