Hi, thanks for the vid posted. The engine is now out but the spindle mounting the rear of the engine to the frame is siezed in and I had to cut it at both ends. Has anyone had the same problem and know how to get it out? Also I'm going to remove the ugly PAV (if I ever get it back together) Does anyone know the size of thread I need to get a domed bolt to block the hole in the head? Thanks all. Andy

The usual answer is lots of heat and penetrating oil for extracting anything stuck. However, that will damage the paintwork.

An air chisel on the end of the remaining stump can be a handy tool for extracting such things. Seen one used to good effect for removing stuck wheel spindles and metalastic bushes.

WD40 is not penetrating oil. Try plusgas. I usually use a 50:50 mix of ATF and paraffin.

Freeze and release might help shock it loose without damaging the paint?

Many thanks for the advice. It's always worthwhile spending some thinking time before tackling a difficult job. After overnight soaking with penetrating oil, judicious use of a blow lamp, hammer and drift, it is now out.
Another question or 2
There are some slight wear marks on the piston skirt and the con rod is brownish. Is this normal? I'm going to have the barrel honed and put new rings in anyway whilst I'm in there.
Next job is to split the crank find the fault and put it all back together, I've never done a gearbox before so I'll take loads of pics and take my time.
Fingers crossed I don't have a washer or bolt left over
