I took the old girl for the MOT test Monday, straight through, no problems.
The rest of the week I have been happily commuting to work and back. There has been some adjustments, and alterations required.
The carb has been spitting a little when setting off, so I raised the needle a notch, now all good. the carb set up is as follows if it helps anyone.
It is a 1998 500 iron barrel 4 speed, Mikcarb carburettor, free flowing exhaust, cone type air filter. It has a 125 main jet, a 30 pilot jet, the standard needle is set one notch from the bottom.
The points are at 15 thou. and timing is as spec. done with a clock gauge.
I don't know how long I'll get away with it for, but it starts first time, and ticks over really smoothly as long as you like.
All in all I'm a really happy bunny, except, the single saddle has to go, it is too tall, making me hunch and lean fore ward too much, making my arms ache, and it is too hard. maybe a bit higher handlebars, but can longer cables be easily obtained?
I am looking at dual seats now, but they are a bit clumpy looking ( I learned that from my granddaughter!), we'll have to see.

Just in case you have a lot of time on your hands and fancy developing this way of fitting the saddle lower, and sourcing different springs, here's a photo for you....

Obviously, use a bolt not a nail, and take a lot of measurements.

No guarantees at all..... anyway, a thought.

OR - Do something normal!

Glad to hear about the MOT,
Chris

The single scrambles seat and the late '50s/early 60's Redditch pattern dual seat look OK, IMHO.

Our hosts have different length cables for Amal carbs, one of these might fit the Mikarb if the fittings are compatible!

I wasn't happy with the standard seat height on my 350. I tried a saddle but eventually fitted a low height dual seat and I'm far happier with it. Part #91470.

Glad to hear your bike is up and running and mot'd time to get some miles in, have you thought about making your own seat then you can have it what ever height you want. I have a similar set up on my bike and hopefully it will have it's first start up in the next few weeks if I get time, then mot will see how it runs before I do any of the jetting but looking forward to my first ride out
