I think I shall fit a longer breather pipe with a non return valve, I never had any amount of oil from breather before this episode. It was the Watsonian-Squire arrangement on the bike when I first had it, the bike hadn't been used for a while and it was all clagged up so changed it to a simpler set up.
I try not to have the oil level too full, mid stick area is good, and the bike has an easy time with no real spirited or long rides as such so it should behave.......
The PAV stuff was removed by the previous owner, I have removed the sprag clutch and it now makes a nice pleasant bike for an oldish chap to toodle about on while his iffy back/leg behaves .
At the moment I am thwarted by there being no new piston circlips available from our hosts, so not sure where I can get any. Is the Hitchcocks part number 500207 there number or a Royal Enfield one?
In my carefree youth I would maybe use the old ones if stuck but it seems silly to now. The ones removed don't seem very springy anyway.

The EFI pistons have the same 20mm diameter gudgeon pin, but use a different style of circlip. As an extreme measure an EFI piston could be used, albeit with a slight compression loss from the dished piston crown.

Some pre-war bikes didn't use circlips at all but had brass pads at each end of the pin.

While our hosts are waiting for fresh supplies (from India?) try your local piston specialist.

I would not normally advise this if it were for something which our hosts currently DO have in stock, but if you're stuck for circlips, ebay item 263622649036, 1 set left! A bit dear, but...

Possibly Henry Price has some?

Thank you Adrian, those circlips are a bit pricey but I would have to wait for 3weeks or so so for them, I shall see what other options there are before going for them. I could buy another std Electra X piston as a way out of the problem but that is a bit extreme, on top of the £72 for the rings + gaskets its getting a tad silly really.
I shall look for the circlips locally, the engine part suppliers from my early days are no longer about but it will interesting to chase up what there are these days.
Our hosts were very apologetic and wouldn't mind me looking elsewhere, where is Henry Price located by the way?

Down in Gloucestershire.

I can't see lean-burn circlips listed separately on his site but he might have some lying around.

There are other C shaped 20mm circlips around but I don't know if they're the correct wire gauge to match the Electra-X piston recess.

I shall be going to the local bearing factor today , they have more the stuff to keep factories going than engines but its worth a try.
There is a local Yamaha dealer that races very fast Royal Enfields who would help but I know he was in Belgium over the weekend so shall maybe try him later if no luck elsewhere.
