Hi GUys----------Hi Martyn s and "well done" for having the (4/3 pi r cubed x 2 )'s to strip it and to show us the results....I hope your re-built trials engine gives you many miles / hours / stone gulleys / peat bogs /up the pipe line etc... of fun in the years to come !!.
This next is just for fun really but it might make you feel a teeny bit happier}----- For my last 18 years before early retirement I was employed at the MoD's Armoured Vehicle Refurbishment Workshops here in Telford, Shropshire.........and for a time on the Rolls Royce CV12 Diesel Engine programme.......These are the ones that power the Challenger Mk2 MBT ( Main Battle Tank )....On the earlier versions the main engine lube oil pump was driven by reduction gearing in the form of a Triplex chain !!....It sat at the bottom of the sump...........Occasionally a roller or two would break up and before you could say "oops a daisy" they had been pumped around the crank, main oil circuits and cylinder heads ( 4 of those !!)!!..........Result = 1 totally scrap engine............OR}----After some 150 hours of skilled re-build by 2 of our Technicians an engine would go onto the test bed for a predetermined test load cycling......and every now and then you'd hear a "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!" followed by a "Groan" from the refurb. Manager as one of the 16 con rods decides to take a step outside for a breath of fresh air !!......Result = 1 totally scrap engine...........War ain't cheap and we hadn't even put the engine into its recipient vehicle yet !! ..................................
