Hi all,

I've got a 2009 Classic 500 Efi and I have recently installed the performance kit (HMC part 90601: power commander, free flowing exhaust, K&N Filter, new cams, pushrods and a new mapping on the PowerCommander) . It starts fine and ticks over very nicely when stationary. Whenever I drive it however and slow down and declutch, the engine stalls. It will start again with a lot of throttle.

Battery seems fine at 12,6 Volts and the rectifier works as it should (charging with 13,8 Volts)

Funny thing is that it runs fine once I put it back on the centerstand

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Rene, have you tried adjusting the idle up slightly on the adjustment screw on top of the throttle body to see if this improves? Even if you get the engine ticking over slightly higher than preferred, you can then lower the revs back down by adjusting the fuelling on the Power Commander mapping at 0% within the desired rpm range. This will then prevent the bike stalling so easily and at the same time allow you to control the rpm which it drops down to, sounds like the final bit of fine tuning to get it running just right.

Hi, Just a possibility, but I had similar problem on a B40, it turned out to be a shorting brake light, as you slowed down engine cut out. Vince

Does it cut out the second you pull the clutch?

A check of the parts list shows it has a clutch switch. That means it has a safety interlock system. Usually some combination of clutch switch, neutral switch and sidestand switch designed to stop you riding off with the stand down or using the starter with it in gear.

I wonder if something in that lot could be malfunctioning? I once had a bike that cut out and backfired every time you went over a bump. Turned out to be the sidestand switch cutting the power every time the stand bumped down.

Another potential avenue of attack in any case.
