Now that I have the Meteor running with an alternator, I thought I would be smart and take it for a run in the dark because it now has good 12 volt lighting. I had done about 15 ks when I went over a rail crossing, out go the lights and the motor stopped. Put in a new fuse, all good, turn on the lights and fuse blew again.After all this work I still had to ride home in the dark. Will I never learn

I forgot to add that this was after I broke a clutch cable and had to push it about a killometre back home this afternoon, got nearly home before I stalled it

Same block, same problems, and still get same looks from people as I go around again and again and again. I even get the feeling they have a little chuckle when I have to push bikes back home, particularly as I live in a court and the last bit is uphill

Hi Norm, had something like that happen to me fairly recently. Fault was due to the rear light cluster connector and cable shorting out on the number plate bracket. When examing the cable to the back light I also noticed that as the bike had a slightly oversize tyre (Not Royal Enfield)the tyre had been rubbing on the cable that was run under side of the mud-guard and had nearly worn right through all the insulation at one position. Only mention it as it would be most likely you will hunt around inside the nacelle for the fault...of course the problem could be there, but if not......

Thanks Les, problem will be in the rear somewhere for sure I think it is the brake light wire

Norm, had the same problem on my Meteor once, brake light switch wire got trapped between frame and swinging arm shorting out ignition. That's the problem with a single fuse on the system!

Mark and Les,
I found it, it was a brown wire hanging down between the rear guard. Not sure what it was from but must have been something to do with when I removed the regulator and then wired in the new setup for the rec/reg unit, and I must have overlooked it, go over a bump and bingo. I'll take it for another ride tonight to see how it goes, so much fun to ride a Meteor with good lights
