I don't blame you for not wanting to pull the primary, particularly if the motor is still starting. I think it must be working because that it the lockout switch to prevent it being started in gear and if you can start it it must be working. Dumbest of dumb questions have you checked the neutral light bulb, I assume the light not working was the cause of this topic starting?

That requires delving in the rats nest in behind the headlight. I nearly lost the will to live wiring in an electronic tachometer.
I think I will leave attempting to check the bulb for the moment.

Norm "just undoing the speedo," looks for me major operation. I have the so called workshop manual from our hosts which is as much use as a chocolate spanner in the way of help.
Frankly I will just leave it alone.

I have an electrickery expert nearby who costs me nothing.(He is somewhat busy at the moment, fitting a crankshaft thrust bearing in the engine of his Trike.) However now I have seen the video when I have time I can do the job myself.

I have in the past removed the binnacle on my BMW K75S, however there are VERY detailed instructions in the workshop manual how to do that.

Inside the headlamp IS a rats nest. I tidied mine up a bit by separating the wires left and right and using a couple of tie wraps around the fork stanchions. to keep them there. After that it was quite easy when I replaced the speedo. I also replaced the crimps on the headlight bulb with right angle ones which made it much easy to put the headlight back.

My old speedo did not have a neutral light, but the new one did. I found an unused connector from the harness inside the headlamp which turned out to be the connection to the neutral switch. I connected it to the speedo "mini-harness" (which came with the speedo) and I now have a neutral light

So if you can find, and open that connector, by tracing it from the speedo you can use a multimeter to check backwards to the switch and forwards to the bulb.
