Any help or tips on keeping the rear wheel on my 1955 500 Twin tight? I have tightened the rear axle nuts to 50 lbs psf and the anchoring plate nut to 14 (I got this from a torque chart that Scalyback passed on). Just repeated the process today and after a short ride the chain is again slack. Any help would be appreciated.

Are the nuts coming loose? Or is the assembly/hub moving and loosening the chain despite them being tight? Are there tight spots on the chain when it's adjusted. Have you checked the wheel is straight and true? Bearings and spacers correctly seated? Chain aligned? Swingarm tight and paralell?



Looks like a lovely fine thread on the nuts from our hosts catalogue, Surprised if they are loosening without some external encouragement.

Rod - it is the wheel moving and not the chain stretching. Surely if the wheel is clamped securely it should not move. Just a thought.

Snail cams prevent the wheel from moving forward, and how are you checking the chain, it needs to be slack if you are not sitting on it and even then it still needs a bit of slack
