I got doubts that any Enfield with a 250 four stroke engine could truly be regarded as a 'works racer'. Bikes entered by the factory in the Thruxton 500 race and similar production races (Super 5, Continental GT, Constellations, etc) weren't truly 'works racers' but production bikes, tuned and fettled and so forth, but not 'works racers'.

Officially all the short circuit Bullets were exported. and were despatched from the factory in 1954 and 55,one or two special earlier 350 short circuit bullet racers were despatched between 1949 and 53. but these were just special order. between 1954 and 55 they produced about 14, 500 short circuit bullets and about 8 350. The one i own is 1955, 500 and is next to the last one to be dispatched and is fitted with a 5 speed gearbox from new [albion 5 speed.] it has 9;5to 1 piston bigger inlet valve.bigger inlet port 1 3/16" gp carb, comp magneto, alloy barrel, and R cams.the petrol tank is 2 1/4 gallon with butterfly type filler cap, it would originally have had a standard alloy conrod, but ive replaced this with a carrillo rod.It goes quite well even the 5 speed gearbox isn t to bad,ive finnished it in silver grey but it was originally in copper beach
