Leon, Leon, in this situation it makes no difference as the motor is not running it is just being cranked over by the starter motor, nothing to do with the spark because the ignition is turned off

Sorry, Norm, this is what happens when I have never owned a motorcycle with a starter, the mind can`t grasp the other options. However, for the records, I have had the throttle jam wide open and holding in the clutch sounded like death to the engine, so I had to rip off the lead before I belted through an intersection against a red light. Putting both feet on the ground didn`t slow me much. On previous occasions the Green light usually stalls the engine, but I couldn`t wait at that speed.

Hi battery isolator switch sounds like an excellent idea. I will not leave the house now unless i have some means with me to isolate the supply. Knowing my luck if its happpened once it will happen again.

Fitting an isolator is a good idea but should not be needed if the solonoid was a good quality one, it is only a compromise to get around a problem that should not exist. You never hear of this sort of problem with the millions of Jappers out there and their solonoids are cranking big motors in many cases

Not a good idea to stop an Electra with the decomp, they can break the tappet, they are so thin. Norm would you suggest just using the kill switch instead to stop an Electra X engine?

Cov Lad all depends if it still has a starter motor, if not it switching of the ignition is fine because if the motor does kick back you will never notice/hear/feel it. If it still has a starter my suggestion would be to pull the head off and get somebody to fit a Bullet decomp valve into the head, then you can stop it using the decomp valve. I have not tried doing that but Adrian says it can be done. I assume he has only tapped in the 14mm thread for the valve and not the bigger thread to allow the exhaust gases back into the exhaust as per the Bullet but that should work fine. I didn't think there was enough room between the valves but there must be. I guess you would need to remove part of one fin. If I get a chance I will have a look at an Electra head I have here.
