Hi All.

Having traced an electrical fault to the Boyer Brandsen powerbox, I've been saving up to buy a new one when I found rectifier-regulators on ebay for under £10. At this price I could buy a couple and keep a spare in the toolbox just in case. Has anyone tried these or are they just a false economy?

I've looked at some of these, the price makes them pretty much a consumable item! The only thing is that these most likely will not come with the Boyer Power Box's built-in capacitor, though if you're running with a battery it's probably not an issue. Separate capacitors are available if you need one.

So. Less than the price of a tank of fuel... Effectively disposable, got to be worth a punt. I use a second hand 3-phase jap bike one on mine. You don't HAVE to connect up all the phases, just leave the third wire disconnected. Even Japanese bikes only used to kick-in the third phase when the lights were on until the mid 80's. The ones they use on jap bikes are pretty much ALL made by the shendingen corporation. Not sure about the Chinese ones, they might be too.

The best type is to fit a mosfet type one (as opposed to a zennor diode based one), highly unlikely to fail but it will cost more than a tenner even second hand unless someone doesn't know what they have (it'll have a part number starting with FH, instead of SH if it's a 'fet).
