I think papasmurf was just using a metaphor in his comment, so I don't think such a harsh comment by Wayne is justified , how many post stay true to their title most go off track after a while. This is a forum for Enfields its not a forum for berating some one who say's what they think, lets keep it friendly. There totally off topic now what are you going to do.

Rosy thank you. In any case the Himalayan when first released was a pile of junk with a lot of problems so bad RE stopped production for a while.
That it does now seem to be sorted after a disastrous beginning is a relief to many.

Thanks for everyones input.

I am looking ahead to the future when the time comes to "down size" my rides, and pondering what bikes might suit.

The Himalayan and 535 Continental are both up for consideration, but in another 5 years time things might change.

I'll be after something reasonably light, cheap to run, owner serviceable and of course reasonably reliable.

Lets see how it all pans out.

Andy, you could have bought the bike which I found, took to the police station about a year ago, when they informed me it hadn`t been claimed and it was now mine. I sold it yesterday for $75 A. Cheap, light, economical and easy to maintain. Clicking on the picture will show camera settings as will clicking on it enlarge the picture.

The bloke who had a big whinge to my mate last week was not a club member so was pretty much told to tell someone who cares, so not a lot of info on the problems were found out

Anyone looking for informed opinions on the Himalayan is best off going to the ADV rider site in the thumpers section. Now up to 302 pages of posts by actual owners. Nobody basing there opinions on past experience of completely different models just up to date real world comments. Seems like lots of adventures being undertaken on these bikes all over the world and some higher mileage owners are chiming in. It really does sound like a good little bike. Dunno how to make a link but paste this into a browser for a look. https://advrider.com/f/threads/royal-en ... 0/page-302

I still think they should also be using the Himalayan engine (maybe without all that black powder coating all over it) in a roadster frame (the CGT?) to give the new Jawas some competition.

I had heard (from a reliable source,) that the CGT is to be dropped when the twins are in full production? To my mind that would leave a gap in the product range for an up-to-date roadster single, maybe there's a new engine on the drawing board? A friend who visited the Bruntingthorpe site not long ago said that there were a lot of people working on something new now the twin is 'finished' for them but they wouldn't say what!

I think it will be as others have mentioned, and a number of these used ones for sale by the dealers are ex demos or are simply from upgrading to another bike. You may find that a lot of the owners who buy their bikes brand new do not want the hassle of selling privately when its easier to just trade in against something new when they are ready for change. I would not be looking at it as a concern either way, as the bikes in general seem to be very well received and are getting great reviews from owners. I think with the simplicity of the bikes and the value for money that's offered, its very hard to beat.

Mark, I believe the 535 Continental GT has not been in production for some time now, I do see there are a number of new ones still available at dealers but assume these are just late registered bikes.
