Been looking at these bikes from a distance for a while now.

Just wondering why the only ones on E-Bay seem to be from dealers - is this because they are so good that owners do not want to sell them?

Just curious.

Judging by the FaceBook Royal Enfield site I'd say you've put your finger right on it!

My mate had a call from a very unhappy owner of one of these during the week, he was really spitting chips. I didn't take too much notice of what it was all about

I've been looking at the adverts for used ones, too. There have been some private sales at very good prices on Ebay.

It does make me wonder, though, dealers or private, why are people wanting to sell them with so few miles on them (and often with many extras.)

I also wonder if some of the low-mileage ones at dealers are ex-demonstrators. I don't think I'd like to buy one of those.......

I think the pessimism is overdone chaps! I've spoken to a lot of Himmy owners now and they are all really enthusiastic about it, more so than any single new model I can remember, certainly recently. Not one has had mechanical problems. One said a pannier leaked slightly in a downpour, that's all I've heard. There are some for sale but not as many as you might think. The RE GB Facebook group (private, not importer,) has good stories from owners and those that want a s/h one have to work at it by the sounds of things. However, some have reported selling in order to buy a Twin and you can see why they'd do that, it'll probably be a bit of a blip in the market. If anyone wants to sell me a cheap Himmy I'll have one!

I have a friend who bought a new Himalayan. He's more than happy with it and has had no problems.

When I first saw it, I was quite impressed and I thought that I would like one.

However, I have deliberately avoided having a go on one (either my friend's or a demonstrator at the local dealer) in case I liked it a lot and then had the problem of finding the money (or bigger problem of deciding which other bike I would have to part with.)

I think that if it had a bit more power, or our hosts brought out a tuning kit, I would be very tempted indeed.

There seem to be a lot of doom and gloom on this forum about just about anything and its usually from the same sources - and contributors from all over the World - East Asian Himalayans are very different in spec and quality from Euro models - and this is not me but the guys at Bruntingthorpe saying this - listen to the English owners for genuine opinion for UK bikes.

Wayne, the doom and gloom is based on experience, I have a 2006 Electra X what I have as yet not been able to do is quantify how many "lemons," there were, so treating riding it a Norm has stated is like riding a hand grenade with a loose pin.
I have even contacted RE in India to try and quantify how many have had major engine problems and never got a reply.

I thought this thread was about the Himalayan. My own experience of this bike is that it's by far the best Enfield model to come out of India. It's well-made and so far free from any of the problems that others have been talking about with other RE Indian models. It rides well, in fact it rides very well! Sure it's not the most powerful dual purpose bike money can buy - thank goodness!! - but it's by far the best value.

Papasmurf - the title of this thread is HIMALAYAN - can you please keep it on the subject - your woes on an Electra x are completely irrelevant.
