I'm having trouble with the choke plunger on the Electra X CV carb - it puts itself off once the engine has started - so the engine stops. Could fit a new choke plunger so it stays on, but the thing is awkward to reach - is there a cable conversion?

Teecee9, there is no spring in the choke pull assembly so it can't pull itself of.
I suspect the internal circlip that seats in the grooves for full choke and half choke has broken.

I suggest removing the choke pull assembly and disassembling it to check. (Held into the carb with a nut.) It should be possible to replace the circlip with a generic one which costs pennies. (Our hosts sell the choke pull as a complete unit for around £18.

I used to have the exact same problem on my 350 powervalve many years ago. I recall my solution at the time was a plastic clothes-peg. When clipped under the choke plunger, it was the perfect width to hold it on. I kept it clipped on one of the cables when not in use.
