Haynes Manuals aren't as good as they used to be. The reason being: Vehicles have become far more complicated. It's not really possible to produce a Manual for a 'Layman'. Since Reliant 3-Wheelers were mentioned. I'll say this. I've owned 4 of them. I had a Haynes Manual for them. If you ignored the timing fault (The Manual said that the timing was at TDC, not 10 Degrees BTDC), the Manual was pretty good. I've not bothered to buy a Manual for my current Jag, as the Manual only offers an overview of the car. Yes, it does go into detail on some things, but not all. A Manual for an iron barrel Enfield would be more detailed than an EFI. This is because your average owner would have the tools to to pull an iron barrel apart. Just how many of us have the tools to work on a Euro 4 EFI?

Just a follow-up on the previous comments. Any one who has the chance to see the Haynes manual for the EFI will see at a glance that it offers stacks more information than any previous manual for the classic ‘iron barrel’ model! It goes into considerable detail and it's worth saying that the EFI requires far fewer special tools than most other makes – most of the special tools for the EFI are easily available from our hosts.

The Haynes manual also tells you to rotate the distributor anti-clockwise to advance the ignition timing - it's clockwise. Those two errors have confused many a DIY man and resulted in many under performing Reliants.

Although I still have the manual on my shelf, I would like it to go on record that I only owned a Reliant three wheeler to use as a donor car for my Liege 4 wheeler ;-) I had it delivered, drove it 100 yards up our private road to check everything worked as advertised, then it was dismantled.
